LapBand101 Competitive Edge Program
in Phase 2!

It is designed to create competition for your surgery between our participating experienced, board certified surgeons, as well as accredited, even "Center of Excellence" designated facilities. The results, we project, would be the same excellent care from the same surgeons and hospitals at a lower price to you, the patient.

Background: The Competitive Edge Pilot program was started in Texas. Its objective was to offer US patients an alternative to traveling to Mexico for bariatric surgery.

Patients have traveled to Texas from all over the US to be operated on for prices comparable to those offered south of the US Border. On April 1st. 2008 California will be added as the second destination state for patients wishing to participate in the Competitive Edge Pilot Program. As the program moves forward; ideally more states will be added. If you would like your surgeon to participate in this program, please direct him/her to our surgeon application form (www.obesitydirectory.com/Provider/)

Where do I start?

Many of us don't want to know the facts about our health but it can be a matter of life and death! Please remember that the primary concern of overweight and obesity is one of health and not appearance. A good plan to get started should include the following:

First inform and educate yourself; understand your current condition and options
Gain the support of your loved ones and friends
Attend a free WLS seminar and get your questions answered
know what your insurance will cover or find alternative funding (we can help you)
schedule your treatment and get ready for a new healthier happier you!

Symptoms to Watch Out For

Serious obesity related symptoms (see your doctor):

frequent infections that are not easily healed
frequent urination
extreme hunger but loss of weight
unusual thirst
blurred vision
extreme weakness and fatigue
irritability and mood changes
nausea and vomiting
high levels of sugar in the blood when tested
high levels of sugar in the urine when tested
dry, itchy skin
tingling or loss of feeling in the hands or feet
loud snoring or noisy breathing during sleep.
restlessness during sleep (with or without periods of being awake)
excessive daytime sleepiness or irritability

If you have any one or more of these symptoms you may have comorbidities which are medical conditions that exist in addition to obesity and are often a result of being overweight. Comorbidities are a factor in determining a patient's eligibility for bariatric surgery.
